With numbers of Faversham folk expected to travel to London to join the Royal Wedding celebrations on Friday (29 April), train operator Southeastern will be running a Saturday timetable (it usually runs a Sunday service on bank holidays).

Passengers will also be able to save money by taking advantage of a 20% discount on off-peak tickets when they buy online.

A Southeastern spokesman said, “There is growing excitement around the country as the wedding approaches and we want to make sure that passengers will be able to get to London quickly and easily. We are expecting that the services will be busy, especially in the morning, so would advise that you allow plenty of time.”

Transport for London, which runs the capital’s tube and bus network, is offering travel advice here, and the Metropolitan Police site gives details of road closures and the route of the wedding procession.

William and Kate’s wedding service in Westminster Abbey starts at 11am. After the ceremony at 12.15pm the procession will head for Buckingham Palace via Parliament Square, Whitehall, Horse Guards Arch, Horse Guards Road and The Mall.

TfL says all tube lines will be running, with no planned engineering work during the day. All tube stations close to the procession route will be open, including Embankment, Charing Cross, Waterloo, Westminster, Hyde Park Corner and Green Park, but station closures will be used if necessary to prevent overcrowding. Buses will be running a Saturday service.
