It’s that time of year again – time to don a poppy and remember our service men and women who have sacrificed their lives for the good of our nation and continue to do so.

2010 marks the 90th anniversary of the Royal British Legion, which helps ex-servicemen and their families with financial and emotional support. The British Legion can help rebuild the lives of those who have fought for our country and their families.

Earlier this year, we observed the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain. Much of the terror of those months took place in Kent, as the Luftwaffe attempted to control the south of England. It is estimated that 544 servicemen from the RAF died fighting Hitler’s Luftwaffe.  The BBC’s ‘The People’s War’ archive contains interesting, moving and compelling memories from Faversham residents of that time.

Remembrance Day is not just about remembering those who served in the First and Second World Wars. There have been 342 British military deaths in Afghanistan since the conflict began in 2001. The British Legion continues to give support to those who have given everything.

Will you buy a poppy this year?
