Oh, and as for the Liberal-Democrats and their principled stance in not standing for the town council: more likely they just wanted to avoid a drubbing!

I'm glad that candidates for the town council are standing under party colours: it'll stop me from voting for a Tory by mistake! Seriously though, it may be OK to dispense with the politics in a village where people may well know the personalities involved; but in a town like Faversham it is harder to get to know the candidates. At least I know that if I vote for a party candidate, I'm probably going to have views in common with them.

Ah, the jetty was what I was thinking of. Though not quite as profitable as I imagined. £22.56 must be one of the lowest precepts around, though I'd imagine if it starts getting too party political, people be less happy to pay.

According to my council-tax bill I'm paying Faversham £22.56 for 2011-12. I can't see anything about a quay on the town council's info, though it does mention a jetty at Front Brents: estimated income £3,000, estimated outgoings £2,625 in 2011-12.

Shame when it happens, but seen a few parish/town councils swing between party neutral and party political (although, to be frank, it's also apparent neutrals on such bodies often form into groups which are parties in all but name!). How much does the council cost a year per household, out of interest? And I seem to recall Faversham are in a lucky position of having income from a quay, though I may be totally wrong!
