Faversham Town did well to keep league leaders Bognor Regis Town down to just two goals in a plucky performance at Salters Lane on Saturday (January 28).

With number-one keeper Rob French nursing injury on the the bench, reserve Lewis Craddock gave a fine account of himself between the posts with a number of good stops and confident handling.

Of more concern to the Faversham faithful was the absence of gifted winger Aaron Quain: all was explained when it was later confirmed he had made the move back to Margate – for the third time!

Bognor's skipper Dan Beck scored their first in the 40th minute, Terry Dodd scored their second after 55 minutes, and the table-toppers generally looked a class act. But the Lilywhites created chances too – Adrian Stone's magnificent second-half overhead shot, following good work on the right by Justin Ascheri, was well saved by Bognor keeper Craig Stoner –  and subs Renford Tenyue on the left of midfield and attacker Tommy Hill both impressed in the time they were afforded.

Faversham's players showed great appetite throughout, never letting their heads drop, in front of a bumper crowd of 208 swollen by the cheerfully vocal travelling "Green army" of Bognor.

• The Lilywhites' next game is at third-from-bottom Burgess Hill Town tomorrow (Saturday February 4). Their next match at Salters Lane is against top-tenners Ramsgate on Saturday February 11 (kick-off 3pm).

• At half time in the Bognor game I had the honour of drawing the January winners of the Lilywhites' 500 Club, under the eagle eye of 500 Club czar Kevin Hoile and Lilywhites programme potentate Mark Downs.

The £100 winner was Doreen Creed; Tony Turner, Alan Moon, Mark Medley and Eddie Glover each won £40.

The 500 Club is a great way of supporting the club – and being in with a shout of a decent prize too. It only costs £2 a month to join, see the Lilywhites website for details and to download an entry form – http://www.favershamtownfc.co.uk/500club.html
